Coby, some day you will forget this surgery, but I wanted to give you a little journal of this experience. You have struggled with asthma for years now. Not too horribly, but enough that when you would get sick,lately you could not swallow nor breathe well. The last three years you have had throat infections that would hurt so badly, but they would not be Strep, so you had to endure the pain for many days. Your tonsils would swell so badly that they touched. You could not sleep very well due to snoring and you have not been able to breathe through your nose in a long time. So, off to the ENT we went as recommended by your pediatrician and sure enough when your doctor saw your tonsils he said "Wow! Those have to come out. He said you'd be a new man after your surgery. Well, we definitely wanted you to be able to breathe especially if you pursue football in high school. January 20th at 6:30 am we checked you into the Valencia Surgical Center for out patient surgery to have you tonsils removed, your adenoids removed and the membranes in your nose reconstructed. You were such a great patient. The youngest on the charts for that day so your surgery went first. It was kind of funny because they came to give you a bit of "relaxing" medicine and the anesthesiologist counted down when it would hit your brain and let me tell you when he got to "1", a big smile hit your face and your speech slurred right away. We could not understand a word you said. Within five minutes you were out snoring and that was without the main meds. They all got a kick out of it and called you a lightweight. The staff was so nice to you, very sweet and you were a gentleman the whole time! Your recovery nurse said she had to do a little WWF when you were waking up. You tried to get right up and out of bed. They said this happens with a lot of the men. It must be that "manly" reaction to things. The man next to you actually woke up swinging, and dad and I heard them telling him they would let him go if he stop trying to hit them all haha. So, I do not think you were terribly bad. You did really well for your first surgery! You had the largest tonsils they had ever seen! We wondered at how you actually did breathe. You do not complain while recovering and I love taking care of you! Here's to you "being a new man!"

Cobes, you probably do not remember this, but the night before surgery dad kept telling you just remember the needle is your friend, the needle is your friend. So when you were half with it, the nurse was asking you about getting enough fluids into your body and she said,"what is the most important rule?" and you replied, "the needle is your friend!"
